Add another GUI mod

Name: Guild Event Manager (GEM)
Version: 3.22
Release Date: 12/11/2008 (mm/dd/yyyy)
Works With: WoW-EN Patch Version 3.0.2+
OS Platform: Universal
Mod. Home Page: Link
Mod. Support Area: Link

Tips and Tricks
  1. No GEM? Try ticking load out of date AddOns.
  2. Problems with GEM? Increase the memory the mods are allowed to use.

The first is often the case after a WoW patch even though the mod will work. The second might explain why WoW crashes with GEM installed. For both, you'll need to click the "AddOns" button on your character selection screen and then tick the "Load out of date AddOns" box or up the memory.

Description

Used to help plan Guild instance and raid events. In our case, we'll be using it with the Roses and other allied guilds to organized shared events. It only works well if lots of us are using it, though. Note that the channel itself is used both cross-guild chatting and GEM use.

The cool thing about it is that we can create an event in the mod itself and then, even if the event creator is offline, others can still indicate they're going to participate. The latest versions allows us to set restrictions on events by role, making event coordination even easier than before.

Usage

It's downloaded and installed similar to any other mod. Unzip the archive, place the GEM3_Core and GEM3UI folders into your Interface/AddOns folder and restart World of Warcraft. Make sure you've deleted the original GuildEventManager2 folder first!

Initial Set-Up:

  1. Type "/gem toggle"
  2. Click the "Options" tab at the bottom of the screen
  3. The name of the "GEM channel" we share with the Honourbound Alliance is "honourbound". It needs a password.
##Check your Guild Info tab in-game for the password or ask your guildies/THB reps for the password.
  4. You might want to change the date/time settings to be more to your liking. In the options go to "Date&Time". All THB times refer to server time so it is probably a good idea to tick this box. Do not tick "I am time reference" but configure the rest however you prefer.
  5. Newer versions of the mod allow you to set a channel alias and a shortcut command to access the channel.
I filled in my channel alias as "thb" and made the alias "a" (for honourbound). When I want to type to the channel, I can then just use "/a" and I don't need to worry about which channel number it is.
  6. Newer versions allow you to say that times displayed should be in server time. If you don't tick this, the time is your personal local time. This can result in quite a bit of confusion. I suggest you say "server time" which is normally how we specify things on our web site too. Server Time is the same as Game Time.
  7. Make sure to remove the gemdefault channel from the list of channels (if present).
  8. I left most of the rest blank and only picked a Minimap icon. You can't tell it's selected, but pick on and that will appear eventually around the edge of your minimap and allow you to access the Guild Event Manager screens easily.
  9. Click "Accept"

Using the Mod (Technical):

  • The "Events" screen shows any currently planned events. You can click to get more information about an event or to sign-up for it yourself. When choosing the time, note that the mod uses your time if you didn't specify "Server Time" in the options (see my comment earlier). Therefore, pick the time in your own time zone. You might also put the time in the description using Game Time.
  • "Create" creates a new event and will be described in a separate section.
  • "Members" shows you a list of people in the guilds currently using the Mod.

Using the Mod (Social):

  • We share the GEM channel with the other guilds in the Honourbound Alliance. At the moment, the cultural ethos is that it's OK to create small 5-person groups and restrict signups on those to your own guild. It should not be OK to do that for 10-person or more groups.

Creating/Managing Events:

This needs to be updated for GEM 3.0. If you'd like to help, please get in touch with Elsheindra
  • At long last! The promised instructions are here.
  1. To create a new event, click on the "New" tab at the bottom of the GEM window
  2. Chose a location from the dropdown box, or type in a location of your choice in the box.
(Add a comment if you wish)
  3. Chose a date and time for the event - chose the time then click the date to set it.
(If you have GEM set you use local time, then set the time for this event in your timezone)
  4. Set the number of players in the raid/group, and the level range (min/max) for this event.
  5. Choose the numbers of each class you require for this event (min/max).
  6. Check that your name and channel name are correct, then click create.

  • Managing events coming soon.
