Name: Ventrilo Version: 3.04 Release Date: 11/22/2008 (mm/dd/yyyy) Works With: Ventrilo Servers 3.x+ OS Platform: Mac and PC clients. Mod. Home Page:http://www.ventrilo.com/ Mod. Support Area:
Ventrilo is an external voice messaging client that can connect to the Honourbound's Ventrilo server plus other servers run by individual groups/guilds within the Honourbound. These applications are specially designed to be low-bandwidth but high-quality, making them excellent for use in raid and group situations, where fast coordination of a team is necessary.
Usage
Download either the Mac or PC client. Run the downloaded program and install the client software somewhere on your computer.
Create a user name
Click the right-pointing arrow to the right of "User Name" to bring up the Setup User screen.
Click the "New" button to create a new user.
Type in your usual character name and click the "OK" button.
The phonetic and description fields can be left blank. So just click "OK".
Set up a server connection
Click the right-pointing arrow to the right of "Server" to bring up the Connection Editor screen.
Click the "New" button to create a new connection.
Type "Honourbound" as the name of the server and click "OK".
Get the hostname, password, and port number from your guild. Enter these into the appropriate boxes.
Default chabnnel should be left blank. You might want to untick "Allow others to record my conversation". Click "OK" to finish.
Setup Audio
Click the "Setup" button
On the right-hand side, there's an area for "Sound Output" and "Sound Input" with dropdown menus. Make sure the output/input are set to your headset, microphone, or speakers as required.
If you want to just talk without having to press a key, make sure "Use Push-To-Talk Hotkey (PTT Mode)" is unticked and "Enable outgoing voice communications* is ticked. You may also want to tick "Play key clicks" which plays a sound when you start transmitting and when you stop, so you can be sure you actually sent something.
If you want to just talk only when pressing a key, make sure "Use Push-To-Talk Hotkey (PTT Mode)" is ticked and "Enable outgoing voice communications* is ticked. You'll also need to set the hotkey in the "Hotkey" field. Pick something not used by WoW already (or something not important!).
The sensitivity and silence controls relate to just talking and control how the application knows you're intending to broadcast and to finish broadcasting. If you talk softly, you may need to use a lower sensitivity value. Try somewhere between 15-25. I use 2.0 seconds silence to indicate I've finished transmitting.
Note: while you can hear in the Setup window, you cannot transmit!
Connecting
The Ventrilo window should have your user name showing, the Honourbound server selected, and a "? MSG: Server is available..." showing in the big white text block on the left of the window.
Click "Connect" to connect to the server.
When you first arrive, you're in the Lobby. To move to a specific room double-click on the plus sign by the room name.
