General
This is a recurring Honourbound Alliance cross-guild venture into Gruul's, led by the intrepid Wandjina (Roses of Dawn) and Elsheindra (The One). The instance resets on Wednesdays. As in Molten Core or Zul'Gurub, you're "locked" to the instance if you're there when a boss is killed.
There are spaces for 25 people. If you can't use GEM for some reason (why not?), you'll need to notify Elsheindra/Basil in-game so you can be added manually. You can also leave a note here but that's not as reliable.
Looting Rules
The Honourbound Alliance Gruul's Lair runs are run using the current agreed upon THB raid rules from December 2007. If you're signed up, it's assumed you've read and agreed to those rules (or you may be shunted to the "substitutes" list).
Pre-Requisites To Get In (Attunement)
There is no attunement.
General Information
For information however - Gruul's Lair is harder in many ways than Karazan (what do you expect, it's for 25 people!) so this isn't for the faint hearted, the first boss encounter is much like Moroes.... a boss and 4x boss adds that need to be downed first while the boss is being tanked. Unlike Moroes there isn't much trash to clear and no attunement required
Gruul's Lair is in Blade Edge Mountains in the north / east end of the central valley. If there's a pile of elite ogres you are probably in the right spot.
The Gruul's Lair first boss is High King Maulgar.
This fight is partly a gear check but primarily a co-ordination check.
Vital (and vaguely unusual) members:
- A mage with around 10K Hit points unbuffed. He will be tanking one of the adds with spellsteal.
- Warlock (who will be tanking another add via enslaved pet).
- Hunter (or other ranged DPS) with high nature resist. Another tank for an add.
Beyond that it's a collection of tanks / healers / DPSers.
As a reminder, everybody attending the raid should have some kind of up to date raid mod installed (oRA2 or ct_raid) and Omen (a threat meter). While threat meter isn't as good in multi-target boss fights as single target it can make the difference between the tank keeping aggro or a boss running amok through the raid with a tank trailing behind it trying to regain aggro. Given that some bosses are untauntable, or that some "tanks" don't have a taunt, this is a bigger thing than it at first appears.
It's well worth getting used to but worst case just install it and hide the window.
<snip> - Now that High King Maulgar has been overthrown on the first night (and only the 4th try!), here's the useful guide to Gruul -

Mods Required
Please have installed Omen and a [oRA2] mod (or other CT-RAID-compatible clone) to help with raid coordination and aggro management.
We will be using the Honourbound's Ventrilo server to communicate with the raid. You can download client software for the Mac or PC from our Ventrilo page. Connection information and passwords are available from your guild's Honourbound representatives.

We had our first run ever on Wednesday, June 20th, with a full 25 people. End result: we're not bad on the three mobs before the bosses, but we need practice on pulling the King and Council. Nice work, everyone!
The next installment in the exciting Gruul's Lair adventure is next Thursday, July 19th. There are still plenty of spots available. Remember: no attunement is required. You just need to be level 70. Come on out with the Roses and the One for an evening of fun!
